In recent times, many students have taken to choosing government-related topics for their research papers. Government topics for research papers include issues like democracy, fascism, any scandal or sham, the life of a politician, corruption, any laws or bills and so on. For writing on such topics, the student needs to be well-versed about the current political condition of the country and laws relating to the publishing of such papers. He also needs to take care as not to sound insulting to any party, nor be accused of sedition, which is punishable by imprisonment and/or a hefty fine.

For composing a research on government issues, a number of topics can be taken up:

  • The Constitution
  • The obsolete laws in need of change
  • Any recent bills which are to be converted into laws
  • Any controversy surrounding a particular political action
  • The admissibility of any law according to the public health
  • Comparison between two or more government systems
  • Any social issue which is in desperate need for political attention
  • The life and times of any politician
  • The political system in any country and its affect on international relations

The main thing to be kept in mind is not to seem biased, if it not an argumentative paper. Biased views often work against the credit of the author if any of his example or data is found faulty. Even if the explanation is weak and does not the reader or the teacher, he is liable to lose out on grades. It is best to be on the safe side and not put a debate down on pen and paper. Most students of political science and/or international relations are required to write research papers about government topics. For this, a background of the issue is to be thoroughly researched. For example, if one is conducting a study about the Second World War, he needs to first know about the First World War, the consequences, the factors which led to the Second World War and its impact on the international forum.  Government research paper topics should be carefully chosen after meticulous examination so that the author is confident about the final topic and is comfortable to answer any questions relating to the subject. It always impressed the reader if facts and details are in order and the author has sufficient knowledge about the chain of events. Extra grades are awarded for drawing a comparison between another country and time with the same situation.

For a good government research paper, one has to be fully updated with the news and regularly engage in productive conversations with the peer group to know about the general opinion and estimate the pulse of the society. Only then can one write an advanced political research paper.
